This article presents a study on the training and early occupational characteristics of recent PhDs in clinical psychology. For this study, all of the 60 departments of psychology listed by American Psychological Association as having approved clinical psychology training programs were asked for the names of their clinical PhDs for the years 1961 and 1962. Fifty-two of the 60 approved departments responded, providing a total of 474 names. A questionnaire was mailed to these 474 individuals. This questionnaire had been developed and tested on a pilot sample of 62 clinical psychologists who had received their training since 1950 and who were actively working as clinical psychologists in a variety of settings.
