The paper characterizes the position of Bosnia in Croatian national ideology during the initial period of Croatian national integration marked by the Illyrian movement of the 1830s and 1840s. A primary goal of the Croatian national politics in the 19th century was the restoration of a territorial integrity of the Triune Kingdom of Croatia, Slavonia and Dalmatia. The western regions of Ottoman Bosnia (i.e. Turkish Croatia) were considered to be an integral part of the Croatian Kingdom by Croatioan politicians and ideologues. Bosnia simultaneously figured in all Croatian national integration conceptions including Illyrism as a part of the Croatian or a wider South Slavic national territory. However, not much attention has been paid to the role of Bosnia in Croatian politics and national integration in the 19th century in historiography so far. This study is based on the analysis of contemporary treatises, proclamations, brochures, articles and program manifestos of a political nature, as well as on the interpretation of literary works published by adherents of Illyrism.
