A recent report from Shantou University College of Medicine in China explores the effects of metal ions and nucleotides on the conformation of actin, a protein found in all eukaryotes. The researchers used molecular dynamics simulations to study the changes in actin's conformation caused by different nucleotides and metal ions. The results showed that ATP binding on F-actin conformation is more stable than G-actin, and Ca[Formula: see text] binding to G-ATP-actin causes larger fluctuations in the D-loop compared to Mg[Formula: see text] binding. The study provides a structural basis for understanding how nucleotides and metal ions influence actin's conformation. [Extracted from the article]
