This article presents information about developments in colleges and universities in the U.S. The public service fellowship for 1940-1941 should be of interest to all recent women graduates of colleges. It offers a sum of $1300 for a year of graduate study at an approved college or university in one or more of the related fields of economics, government, history, and sociology. The award is made annually by the faculty of Barnard College, Columbia University, New York, N.Y., to a woman who has graduated during the past five years and who shows promise of usefulness in the public service. Ralph Linton, professor of anthropology at Columbia University in New York, N.Y., gave a public lecture at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., on November 6, 1939, on the subject "Culture and Personality." A Social Science Research Committee was organized last spring at the University of Rochester in Rochester, N.Y., and the university is conducting an interdepartmental social science seminar on methods of research.
