We have investigated the influence of the strong psycho-social stress and malnutrition in which the food contained 48% of proteins, 56% of fats and 58% of carbohydrates of the daily needs. These conditions were imposed by the blockade of Sarajevo. In the group of the long followed cases of the insulin dependent patients suffering from diabetes mellitus we have observed the improvement of clinical status and favourable changes of biochemical parameters, among which the contents of IgG, insulin antibodies, sugar in blood, triglycerides, HbA1C, C peptides, T-lymphocytes and cholesterol. Such results were registered even though the therapy, due to the circumstances of war, was irregular and stress and nutrition which was rich in carbohydrates had, according to our expectations acted as glycogens. In creation of this change, jugding by results, the leading role is that of the changes of the protein content, immunity and neuro-endocrine components. For determination of the precise mechanisms of these changes, further investigations of the insulin receptors, the dynamic of cortisol and creatinine kinase and antibodies present in this disease are needed.
