The article explores a secure way of using patient data from clinical trials. British charitable trust Sense about Science is campaigning to require all clinical trials to be registered and reported, but is not calling to make individual participant data (IPD) to be made public. In a 1970-published study, it was found that having access to IPD facilitated more thorough data, identified missing information and offered greater reliability of subgroup analyses.
