The article discusses a study about predation on the minimal armhook squid by minke whales. The data were obtained from a total of 200 minke whales collected from May to September in 2004 and 2005 during surveys conducted over the entire area between the Pacific coast of northern Japan, and in the International Whaling Commission's defined sub-Areas 7, 8 and 9, excluding Russian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The study found that the minke whales fed on minimal armhook squid in a relatively restricted area near the Emperor Seamounts, irrespective of the broad research area.
