In this paper, three kinds of selenium ionic liquids were synthesised and characterised by IR, 1H-NMR, LC-MS, TG and DSC which confirmed their structures. Treated as solvent and catalyst, selenium ionic liquids were applied for ethylbenzene oxidation to acetophenone, where were observed activity differences. The most optimum reaction conditions were determined: ethylbenzene as substrate – 1 mmol, urea hydrogen peroxide (UHP) as oxidant – 6 mmol, ionic liquid as catalyst and solvent – 0.6 ml, temperature of 80℃, reaction time 9 h, and the yield was 91.76%. [C6mim] [SeO2(OCH3)] was proved to be the best catalyst for selenium ionic liquids, which benefits elementary chemistry theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
